Lunesta Ad OT 442

One ad that has always stuck out to me has been the Lunesta ad, which is a commercial for a night time sleep aid. For whatever reason, anytime I see this ad or any other night time sleep aid ad I immediately feel tired and could close my eyes and take a nap. All throughout high school, into college, and very recently I have had trouble with day time sleepiness, and it wasn't because I didn't get a good nights sleep. I would be sitting in class, or at work standing up and wouldn't be able to keep my eyes open! There were a number of times where my eyes would glaze over and I would hallucinate right before I was able to jerk myself back totally awake, which was pretty weird!

Learning about the brain states gave me a little more information of how our body functions in different states. I think that the Lunesta ad affected me so much because it would make me feel very tired all of a sudden, even though I usually saw those commercials during the middle of the day. Some aspects of the human nervous system involved in my response to the Lunesta ad could be a reduction in orexin-producing neurons which are located in the hypothalamus. These neurons are involved in energy metabolism and keep us from suddenly falling asleep, which was happening to me. It could also be said that there was an imbalance of acetylcholine and norepinephrine in my brain which was making me feel very tired. I think whenever I watched the Lunesta ad, my brain started to very slightly transition into sleep, which caused me to become drousy.
