Era Presentations

This week each group of students presented their Era Presentations to the class and they were extremely fun and insightful. Each different era had so many different events that changed both the world and our occupational therapy profession. There were three points made in different presentations that really stood out to me. The first was the rehab movement during the 1950's, during this time a lot of focus was put on developing and improving prosthesis, wheelchairs, and therapeutic material. This movement was extremely important because it changed how therapy was approached, and I'm sure that it made significant advancements with how these materials were developed and made. The second point that was made during the 1960's presentation that stood out to me was that the University of Southern California offered the first occupational therapy master's program. This was interesting to me because master's programs for occupational therapy were not as prevalent until many years later. The last thing that really stood out to me was the Rehab Act of 1973, which put a focus on improving the lives of individuals who are severely disabled. This stood out to me because the act puts a special focus on individuals who are severely disabled through government programs, which we had not seen before. There were many other points that were incredibly interesting and surprising but those were a few that stuck out to me! Everyone did such a good job in every aspect of each presentation, and it was a fun and interactive way of learning!
